Dr Chandana Unnithan is a higher education professional (academic) for 15 years with Australian Universities. Her academic portfolio intersects teaching and research in Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), Informatics/Analytics, Business Management and Public Health. She has also spent a few years in the ICT sector, handling international projects with multinational corporations such as IBM.
A passionate researcher with over 75 publications, her current focus is on leveraging social media and visual analytics, for developing visualizations on citizen engagement in democracies and knowledge abstractions for improving public health. Currently, she is engaged in developing a research agenda based the focus areas with colleagues in Canada.
She is on the editorial board of several journals and on the program committee of many international conferences including the Social Media and Society (#SMsociety15) that focuses on building social media and visual analytics.
She is also part of the United Nations Action Team 6 which aims to use spatial technologies for improving public health globally. With knowledge abstractions from health sector, she is building visualizations to support this project.
Apart from academic interests, she is a trained Bollywood dancer (Shiamak Style), having participated in many international theatre shows and productions. She also writes scripts for stage productions and Bollywood films actively.
