Susan’s PhD investigated the design and design representation in innovative information systems. Since completing her PhD she has been a principal researcher for two externally funded research projects. The first project, with GS1 Australia, involved the development of a prototype iPhone application to investigate consumers’ response to the access of allergen information in packaged foods. The second project (result of a competitive tender) with Department of Health and Ageing (DoHA) aimed at understanding the complexities and obstacles to developing a national nutritional food database. Susan regularly publishes in academic outlets in the areas of teaching and learning, Information Systems development philosophy, and design and design representation. Susan also has over twenty years experience in tertiary teaching and has received many teaching awards. She has taught over many subject areas including systems analysis and design, database design, project management, design and development of Internet and mobile systems and business data analysis. She was responsible for developing two innovative Information Systems courses at Deakin, one in Design Thinking and another in Enterprise Systems (both with industry participation).
